"What's Your Blood Type?" features original artwork and poetry that:
- Explores the reality of living with sickle cell disease
- Celebrates the life-saving power of blood donation
- Highlights the urgent need for Black heritage blood donors in the UK
- Transforms chronic pain into meaningful, beautiful art
- Invites community healing and action
The exhibition builds on our November 2024 permanent installation "Brixton Gives Blood" at the Brixton Blood Donation Centre, expanding the conversation about blood donation, healthcare equity, and community care.
Sickle cell disorder is the fastest-growing genetic blood condition in the UK. Currently, 16,000 more Black heritage blood donors are urgently needed to meet demand for ethnically matched blood.
People living with sickle cell disease depend on regular blood transfusions to survive. Without enough donors, patients face dangerous delays in life-saving treatment.
This exhibition demonstrates how art can inspire action where statistics alone cannot—turning awareness into real impact through donor registrations and community engagement.
